{"id":8446,"date":"2024-10-23T10:43:10","date_gmt":"2024-10-23T14:43:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.odq.wp.vortexdev.com\/?page_id=8446"},"modified":"2025-09-11T13:36:22","modified_gmt":"2025-09-11T17:36:22","slug":"contesting-fees","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.odq.wp.vortexdev.com\/en\/public\/the-odq-and-your-protection\/contesting-fees\/","title":{"rendered":"Contesting fees"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading is-style-small\"><strong><strong>Requesting Reconciliation of Fee Accounts<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Before initiating a formal procedure, we suggest <strong>contacting your dentist directly<\/strong> to request clarification on the fees charged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the disagreement persists and you believe the fees are unfair, unreasonable, or disproportionate to the services provided, you may submit a request for fee reconciliation with the Syndic\u2019s Office, in accordance with the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.legisquebec.gouv.qc.ca\/fr\/document\/rc\/D-3,%20r.%2012.1%20\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">R\u00e8glement sur la proc\u00e9dure de conciliation et d\u2019arbitrage des comptes de l\u2019Ordre des dentistes du Qu\u00e9bec<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A request for conciliation regarding an account or part of an account for professional services that has not been paid may still be submitted to the syndic after the <strong>60-day deadline<\/strong>, provided it is submitted before the client is served with a legal claim for the recovery of that account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If a dentist and a client have agreed on a treatment plan spread over multiple sessions and payable in several instalments or invoices, the 60-day period begins from the date of the most recent invoice or instalment due. The conciliation request may cover all invoices issued or payments due within the year preceding the request.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If a decision by the R\u00e9gie de l\u2019assurance maladie du Qu\u00e9bec or another insurer fully or partially denies reimbursement of an invoice more than 60 days but less than one year after it was received by the client, the conciliation request must be submitted to the syndic within 30 days following the date of that decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/www.odq.wp.vortexdev.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/ODQ_Syndic_Demande_conciliation_compte.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fee Account Reconciliation Request Form (in French only)<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading is-style-small\"><strong>Requesting Arbitration (if reconciliation fails)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If reconciliation does not lead to an agreement, you may request arbitration of the fee within 30 days of receiving the Syndic\u2019s report.<\/p>\n\n\n<section class=\"message theme-block theme-block--innerblock aligndefault notice--information\">\n<span class=\"theme-block__label\">Message<\/span>\n  <div class=\"message__content\">\n\n  \n    \n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Important : Difference between reconciliation and compensation request<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The procedure for reconciliation and arbitration of fees is not designed to obtain financial compensation for any harm or inconvenience attributed to a dentist&#8217;s malpractice.<\/p>\n\n\n  <\/div>\n\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading is-style-small\"><strong>Filing a Compensation Claim for Malpractice<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To seek compensation for harm caused by a dentist, you should first attempt to resolve the issue directly with the dentist.
